WHAT A PHYSIOTHERAPIST WILL DO DURING TELEPHYSIO SESSION?

HOW LONG DOES A TELEPHYSIO SESSION LAST? 

60 minutes

WHO NEEDS IT? 

Most conditions are appropriate for telephysio. It is particularly helpful when you require an expert opinion for acute injury management, to answer questions regarding your current treatment plan/ exercise plan. 

WHAT KIND OF SERVICES IS EXPECTED IN TELEPHYSIO? 

Examples of services that include, but not limited to, education and guidance, progress monitoring and exercise supervision. 
*Please note that hands-on treatment by your physiotherapist is not possible during a TelePhysio session, but in-person sessions can be arranged if appropriate.

WHAT SHOULD I CONSIDER WHEN ENGAGING ON TELEPHYSIO? 


Here are some preparation:
1. Set up your device so you are hands free (As you will likely need to move during the session) 
2. Have enough space to move around but still be in view of the camera on your device
3. You need to have an internet connection, a computer, tablet, or smartphone with a camera, speakers and mic
4.*for older people, children or people with balance issue, a caregiver or parent need to be present for the telephysio

WHAT IS A LSVT TECHNIQUE? 

LSVT (Lee Silverman Voice Treatment), is a programs developed and researched over the past 25 years beginning with a focus on the speech motor system (LSVT LOUD) and more recently have been extended to address limb motor systems (LSVT BIG), particularly to Parkinson Disease. 

WHAT IS THE DURATION AND DOSAGE OF LSVT? 

LSVT BIG have a standardized minimum treatment dosage (or schedule). Each treatmentprotocol consists of the following:
● 60-minute, individual treatment sessions
● Treatment sessions are four consecutive days a week for four consecutive weeks
● Daily homework practice (10-20 minutes a day) all 30 days of the month
● Daily carryover assignments all 30 days of the month

ANY PREPARATION NEEDED FOR LSVT PROGRAM? 

Scheduling. LSVT is an intensive treatment that requires one hour treatment sessions, fourdays a week for four weeks, along with daily homework exercises. It is helpful to plan ahead with your schedule and determine the best time to start to ensure your success (e.g. no conflictswith upcoming vacations). Ultimately 16 hours is a very small investment for the benefits of improved communication or mobility. 
Cleared for Exercise. For some people with Parkinson’s Disease, there may be other co-occurring medical or orthopedic conditions that could impact when to start LSVT treatments. It may be recommended to get medical clearance first. It is also advisable to be stable on yourcurrent PD medications before starting LSVT BIG.
Preview LSVT Exercises. While you're waiting to start treatment, LSVT BIG videos canintroduce you to exercises that will be used in treatment. These videos DO NOT replace therapy, but they can help you prepare in advance and familiarize yourself with what to expectonce you begin treatment with your LSVT Certified Clinician. Once Treatment is Complete.

WHAT ARE THE AFTER LSVT TREATMENT FOLLOW-UP? 

1. Continue your LSVT BIG exercises and daily homework exercise routine just as you takeyour medicine every day! Practice at least once a day for 10–15 minutes to help maintain thegains you worked hard to achieve. 
2. Use your bigger movements all day, every day at home, work and play. 
3. Schedule periodic assessments and tune up sessions with your LSVT BIG Certified Clinician. 
4. Use the LSVT BIG Homework Helper video. 
5. Participate in BIG for LIFE exercise classes
